Tucks review and wisdom teeth

I haven't been able to do a lot the past several days. Mainly because sharing a computer with an 18 year old is hard. With Jeff needing to complete necessary applications to get his college courses all set and submit needed documents it has taken him some time to do. So, I have waited patiently for my turn.

It also has been hard because the past couple of days I have been sick. Apparently my wisdom teeth have decided to break through at my age. Don't ask me why at 38 years they decided to come through but they have. Apparently, the lower wisdom tooth has cracked one of my lower molars and it has created an abscess. Which has put me into a constant state of radiating pain. Since I do not have health insurance I have been keeping a constant regime of Ibuprofen and Tylenol. It is the best I can do for now, and it has also allowed me to be able to deal with the pain and still get some things done. Unfortunately, for me, the infection has now done a number on my body. Like any antibiotic would do to your system after a long period of time. I have contracted an UTI (urinary tract infection) and have had the most uncomfortable bout of loose bowels, which have irritated any hemorrhoids that have been dormant. Good thing about that is that I was given a sample of Tucks medicated pads to try on behalf of Mom Central and believe me they couldn't have come at a better time. I know TMI, but seriously, it has been a blessing because it works so well. I mean instantaneous relief. It can't get much better than that in my opinion. It is hard enough dealing with one pain than to have to deal with any other subsequent ailment.

Updates

Chris and I have been sick for better part of last week and I am still struggling to get back to normal. It just seems that I move a step forward and the next day I am thrown three steps back. I hate when this happens.

The kids are off for Spring Break. Jeff has picked up more hours at Auntie Anne's and is working everyday this week except for Wednesday and Thursday and of course Easter Sunday. He is happy about that because he has to buy Prom tickets once school resumes on Monday. He is not sure who he wants to take. I don't know about him sometimes. When I went to Prom it was something I prepared for at least a few months in advance. With Jeff and his slack ass approach it seems that is the normal now for teenagers. Wait till the last fricking minute. He is not the only one because his friends are doing the same thing. Whatever......

Katie has a few things scheduled for her Brownie troop. They are going to the Lowry Park Zoo for their end of year party. The proceeds from selling over 2500 boxes of cookies will pay for their party and also allow family members to attend. So, Chris and I will be going. Jeff has no interest to go with a bunch of 9 year old screaming girls.... haha.... She is also bridging from Brownies to Juniors this year, so a ceremony will be held at the Girl Scout Headquarters in Sarasota sometime in May for that.

Chris and I wanted to take the kids some place nice for Spring Break but with being sick and Chris missing almost a full week of work it is not going to happen this week. Chris has thought about taking some time in a few weeks and just go to Orlando for a weekend. He can get us free hotel rooms at this resort that his company managed in the construction process. This place is huge and the rooms are like suites. NICE.... But it all depends on how busy they are at work and what the resorts schedule is. I would like to go to Sea World. I have not been there since I was a kid. That was a long time ago! LOL!!!!

Other than being sick there isn't much going on around here. I have taken most of this week off from cleaning homes to be home with the kids. I will be working this Friday but the kids will be ok for a few hours. Jeff has been watching Katie for a few months now and picking her up from school when I haven't been able to so I know he is responsible enough to watch her for a few hours.

My grandparents were in a car accident yesterday. My grandpa is ok but my grandma was banged up. She complained about her neck and back hurting and she has bruises all over. Her mouth is cut up and bruised because the airbags deployed. She is still in the hospital for evaluation. They are running all types of tests. The accident involved four cars. The second and fourth cars were cited. My grandparents were the fourth car. Maybe this will be the final straw for my grandpa. I love him but he should not be behind the wheel anymore. I would get nervous driving with him. He would site see instead of drive. I know my grandparents would not like to lose their independence in the way of not driving but sometimes you just need to let go. My dad has already told my grandparents that he will drive them where they need to go. He is semi-retired now so that would not be a hindrance on him to have to drive them to doctors appointments and grocery shopping. They attend the same church so that wouldn't be an inconvenience and my parents live only 5 minutes down the road from them. That is what family is for right?

Feeling a whole lot better now.

The past few weeks I have been battling pneumonia. I made it worse by continuing to work and then it just knocked me out. I am feeling much better now and I have an enormous amount of work to catch up on. I will never do that to myself again.

A lot has happened since I last blogged. My dad lost his job as a maintenance man for a condo association on Longboat Key. It was nothing my dad did or didn't do, they just changed board members and the vice president let my dad go so that he could bring in his friend that didn't have a job. I don't think it is fair or that something like that should even happen without the residents vote but they did it anyway. My dad's boss was livid but there is nothing he can do to stop it without the possibility of losing the account. In this day and in this economy I understand that fear! My dad's boss did do something that normally they wouldn't do. They told the board members that they would have to give my dad notice and allow him to train the new guy and they would have to pay him a weeks severance pay. The firm that my dad worked for will definitely place my dad somewhere else when a position opens up. It still angers me that they let him go in the first place.

Katie is selling Girl Scout cookies again and so far we have done two cookie booths. Friday and yesterday. We were signed up for six but they took one away to give to another girl that "mistakenly signed up for a wrong day" and the only other booth slot left was for a day that Katie is already working. I am not going to allow Katie to work two shifts ( 4 hours total) on the same day. Two hours is plenty long enough for a nine year old! Chris, Katie and I do our best to help the troop reach their goals every year and this year it seems like we are the bubonic plague or something. There are only a handful of girls that we will work with because the other handful do not do anything but whine and complain. I can not and will not participate with them or their parents. It's sad but I can't make them do what they are supposed to do. I am not their parent!

Jeff is seriously looking into buying his scooter. We have shopped around here locally for a 50cc and the prices are absolutely mind boggling. We shopped online and found the same exact bike for $689.00 plus with the cost of shipping would make it $888.00 While the same exact bike sold here is $1300.00 I can't justify spending the extra $400 or so just to help a local merchant! No difference in the bikes or warranty either.

That's all I am going to rant about now! I am getting a headache just thinking about these things.

Craig's List Rocks

I have heard about Craig's List before but never really gave it much thought. Until Chris' mom told me I should advertise the cleaning business on it. There is no cost to do this. I have a few ads on it and have gotten a few calls but sadly many of them were from people that are out of my service range.

Port Charlotte is almost 45 minutes away and to me that is just not cost worthy. But today I did receive an email from a woman in Sarasota. I called her number and left a message. She is looking for a Bi-weekly clean and I sure hope that it pans out. A lot of people that call me want a quote over the phone. I do not give prices over the phone. A lot of times in the past I have ended spending too much time on a home and all the extras they wanted but since I already gave them a price over the phone I could not in good conscience tell them it would be more. So... I do not do that anymore. There are reasons why a lot of companies do not quote anymore. More times than not they will offer a free in home quote because it gives them a better understanding of what exactly the customer wants. Many times a customer may think they know what needs to be done but in reality it is something completely different. I just thought I would put that thought out there in case there are people that don't have that understanding.

Tightening of the belts and purse strings

Chris' company is going through some restructuring. No.. not in a bankruptcy kind of way but scaling back on expenses and such. Like I mentioned before, Chris' is bringing in our water cooler that we don't use because we get our water from the fridge receptacle now. They are also cutting corners on insurance. Mainly on health and life insurance. Chris' is the only smoker in the office but he smokes cigars and not on a daily basis. So I am not sure he would fall under the category of smokers life insurance or not. His bosses don't seem to think so.

Since the company has downsized and let go of their office manager, they are down to just two employees and the partners which is Chris' dad and good friend. They have enough work to sustain Chris and the other guy and they are really hoping to weigh through this economic crunch that we are in. Tightening of the belts and seeking more contracts is their main focus right now. I think they will pull it off.

It's been a daunting few weeks...

and I really hated not being able to keep up with my posts. We are officially moved in and have been since October 30th when we turned over the keys to the landslums. I can tell you right now we will be taking them to court. They refused to do a walk through with Chris and told him that they would be keeping the deposit without stating why. I am not going to go into full detail because it still pisses me off to no end and I would rather save my energy for the day we get in court. We are well within our rights and Chris has taken over 150 pictures of the house before we handed over the keys. I am confidant that this will work out in our favor.

Now I am focusing my energy on getting the new house organized and settled. I still have some boxes out because I am not quite sure where to put all our crap. Can you believe it? We had a garage sale before we moved and I think we will need to have one in the near future.

Jeff and Katie are settled into their new routine. Jeff now takes a bus to school instead of being driven by his dad every morning. It gives Jeff more time to get ready in the morning and he can now take showers in the morning instead of the night before. He likes the fact that he gets home earlier from school. Normally I would pick him up but by the time he got to my car and we would have to wait for the buses to leave before we could inch ourselves into traffic.

Katie and I walk to and from her school. She absolutely loves that. I like the fact that I am getting good old fashioned exercise. I may even shed a few pounds doing this. That's of course if I do not have houses to clean. I don't have all my days booked just a few. Tuesday's and Thursday's are my solid days. I am hoping that word of mouth advertising does the trick. I know it takes time to establish and grow.

The dogs and cats are really getting along well. Except that the cats find the birds and hamsters a little too interesting. We lost a hamster last night. Cuddles was trying to get inside their cage and knocked the cage off the table and it flipped and landed on it's top. Bear survived but Pooh did not. Katie was upset and I felt so bad for Pooh. She was just so tiny and what an awful way to go. Reese whined the whole time while we wrapped Pooh up and cleaned the mess from the cage. Every time Cuddles tried to come over and investigate, Reese would chase her away. I checked on Bear this morning to see if he was still with us and apparently Katie had the same idea because she beat me to it. She was so cute when she explained to me that she worried all night that maybe he had "eternal bleeding". She is something else.

Ok.. I am off to get more done and I need to clean out our water cooler for Chris. The office is cutting back on their water delivery and Chris is bringing ours in.

Just another day

I am just sitting here contemplating what exactly I want to accomplish today. I am in one of those "where is my life going" moods. No, I am not depressed just unsure. I have been jobless for a little over 4 months and I have been actively searching for jobs via newspaper and online and it is so depressing not seeing much of anything out there. And the occasional good find has over 2000 applicants fighting for the same job. Ridiculous!
I don't necessarily have to work but the extra income was nice. I am trying to find other ways to bring in income but so far it is very small. I am pretty sure that we will be looking for another place in the coming months. Our rent does not justify the dwelling we are in. Not saying that it's a downright dump but we are paying way too much. Especially since our neighbor approached us with an offer to rent their house for way less than what we are paying here.

I guess a lot of my mood is based on the fact that I don't go anywhere other than the regular grocery shopping trips, picking up my son from his summer school course and the occasional driving of my friend Kat to her doctors appointments. I feel like a recluse. No adult interaction all day so I am all up Chris' butt the moment he comes home. I want to be able to go out and do something but then I remember the price of gas and to me it is not worth it. This economy thing sucks big time.

Maybe I need to find some kind of support group. Although I don't know what kind of support I need. In September, Chris' best friend, Phil will be staying with us the whole month so I won't be lonely when he comes but I probably won't be sober either... he is a bartender by trade and lets just say he loves to drink with a partner. Chris will drink but I think they conspire to get me shitfaced. Apparently I am funny. Or vunerable not sure which! I am not an avid drinker so when I do drink it doesn't take much.

So, generally I am in a funk. Any ideas on how to snap out of it?

Bait and Switch

We all know that posting one price but then charging another is illegal. So how in the hell are gas stations getting away with it? The word on this is that they display one price, but if you pay by credit card at the pump it charges you more. Is this legal? I don't think so. I think it is down right sneaky.

Many gas station owners are claiming that because credit card companies charge a percentage to be able to accept their card that the public should be made to pay for that tiny percentage. WTF?
Some gas stations have posted the different prices. That would be acceptable but others are still trying to hide the fact that they are charging customers using their credit cards a higher rate. Some charge 8 cents more per gallon but others have been caught charging up to 50 cents more per gallon. My advice to anyone who pays at the pump is to watch out for the ol Bait and Switch. If you happen to catch one in your area please report them as soon as possible. We are paying out the butt for gas as it is, we shouldn't be raped along with it.

The morning after

I hope every ones 4th was an enjoyable one. We did not go anywhere to see the fireworks. The weather channel forcasted Thunderstorms early evening and to continue through out the night. Needless to say they were WRONG! So.. instead we set up some lawn chairs and watched as the neighbors did their displays and the gated community across the street really put on a show. They had the mack daddy of all fireworks. The mortar kind. Never saw one police car try to enter that community. Maybe cause they couldn't get in? haha...

Earlier we enjoyed dinner with both sets of parents. Chris' parents hosted. The Salmon was wonderful. I know, not your typical grilling food for the 4th but trust me no one complained. My kids were even into it.

Chris got a call from the Mimi's Rescue on Thursday letting us know that the two kittens we are adopting were going in to be spayed that day and that we should have them either on Saturday or Monday. We originally thought that one of them was a little boy, but nope. It's a girl. Which is cool. We wanted two females to begin with. So at this point in time their names will be Belle ( Katie picked that one) and Cuddles (because it is exactly like the cat Chris had as a child that was named Cuddles) We are so original aren't we? I will have to post some picks as we take them. Belle is a Flame Point Siamese and I am not sure what the other one is but she is cute.

Oh.. I almost forgot. If you choose to go see a movie this weekend. I highly recommend Hancock. Seriously, this is a funny and touching movie. I don't think there was ever a time that I wasn't laughing or teary. It is that good. My whole family enjoyed it and it will be a movie that we will buy when it is released.

YES! I have a week off from school...

I just completed both my courses and I have to say that I am pleased with the outcome. I received a 90% in Algebra. I worked my hiney off for that and I am so glad it is over with. I received a 92.87% in software applications. If it wasn't for the trouble on one of my projects I probably would have gotten a perfect score of 100%.
Oh well.. I am happy all around. So I won't have classes again until next Wednesday the 2nd. Which will be Business Law and Interpersonal Skills. Those should be interesting. My books are due to arrive any day now. Can't wait to skim through them to see exactly what we will be doing.

So.. how am I going to celebrate my time off? Hmm... playing Sims, swimming, being absolutely lazy and not sure what else. I have been working on putting together fund raiser packets for Regalo Boutique to send out to the elementary schools in Sarasota County. Why not right? Chris and I have even discussed possibly getting involved in different flea markets this season. In Florida during Season the Flea Markets are booming. So we'll see.

The landlord lives...

He actually showed up today. Luckily Chris was home for lunch otherwise I probably would have knocked him out right where he stood.
Apparently the tenants next to us wanted the wood for firewood. So when Chris and Jeff were done cutting up the huge branch they tossed the wood over the chainlinked fence. The owner was not happy and wanted it cleaned up.
So the landlord came by with a few of his men and they took care of that. They also took all the shrub and debris away and they cut our lawn. I was floored.
Chris and the landlord discussed the fence repair and we will go ahead and do whatever needs to be done and take the expense off the rent. The landlord will be taking the tree out or at the very least cutting off the branches that are questionable. We told him it needs to be done soon and if nothing happens within 30-45 days than we will do it ourselves. Can you see where this will go?
Apparently his excuse for not getting back to us was he was out of town. Ummmm... we called his cell. Which I am sure he had on him. The house line was connected to his fax machine so no message could be left there. And apparently he and his wife are separated but not getting a divorce because it is cheaper that way. WTF????? So maybe that's why he hasn't gotten his messages as he conveyed. Does your wife have your cell phone? The one that you responded to when there was a ticked off neighbor? You only came by because you wanted to protect your reputation. You didn't have concern for your tenants.
So.. the next time I have an issue... I won't call him, I will tell the neighbor and have them call him and lets see how fast he sprints over here. I am a bitch.. hell.. I own that!

Checking in...

I haven't been exactly on the ball with posting the last two days. I had homework to finish up. I am not a procrastinator.... really I am not, but when it comes to my school work I am somewhat a perfectionist. I need to know there is nothing else I can do before turning the projects in. So.. Mondays and Tuesdays are pretty much all about me agonizing over whether or not the projects are worthy. I know my world is weird. I am weird.. I will never deny that!

Last night I decided to treat my family to a movie. We went to see Iron Man in the early evening. That was the best $50.00 I spent to enjoy an evening with my family. There are more movies on our list to see at the theater. We don't go much unless there is a must see movie that can not wait until it comes out on DVD.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal skull

Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian

WALL E

Hancock - I saw this preview last night and it looks good. Will Smith stars

Harry Potter 6

There are a few others but they escape me right now.

Gotta run... new week in school starts today and I want to get a jump on my assignments.

I would like to stay home...

I have been unemployed for over a month now. I have logged into the Florida data base of jobs almost everyday (weekends are my time damn it) and there is nothing out there that I am qualified for.
I have to go to the actual JOBS ETC place on Monday so that they can interview me and possibly place me somewhere. We shall see.
I actually like staying home and being there for the kids when they get home from school. I can stay on top of the house cleaning and do my homework in peace with no distractions... except for the dogs needing to go outside. So when the man of the house comes home, dinner is ready or almost ready and we have the evening of peace. No rushing around to get things done because I am just getting home myself. I am not as tired or cranky and my migraines are almost nil.
But... the extra money that I made helped. So.. I would love to stay home and make money. Any suggestions on how to make decent money by staying home? I would love for some feedback. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Same (bleep) different day.

I have been working hard on the algebra and damn I feel like my brain will implode any second now. I am taking a break so I thought I should post to keep you all up to date.

I spoke to the Human Resource Dept ( owner's wife) on Thursday regarding the pay I received. It turns out that the owner told the office manager to inform me that he could only pay $10.00/hour. It would have been fine and I would have worked anyway... but her not telling me made me a little leery. Did she think I wouldn't have filled in? Just be straight with me and there won't be any problems. Geez.. I am not a monster and the money helped.

Yesterday, we took my parents out to dinner to celebrate my dad's 61st birthday. They had a great time and I know my parents were grateful just to go somewhere. They have spent some money on a new water heater and they are redoing the kitchen. So a break was good for them. Afterwards we brought an apple pie back to their house to eat. I would love to help them out this weekend painting and replacing the floor but this algebra is a monster and I really want to keep my GPA.. so all the studying and work needs to pay off.

Also a reminder people to submit your ideas for the contest being held for Regalo Boutique. The details are here.

Another term has begun...

hence the reason for no post yesterday. Besides filling in at work yesterday and accessing my classes, I was to exhausted to spend any time in the evening online. College algebra is going to be a hard one for me. I have no doubt that I will not complete the course but I am already having my doubts on how much of this I am going to understand. My son has already volunteered to tutor me... such an angel he is.

My software applications class is about Vista and Office 2007. I have both so I should pass this course with flying colors. I will really feel dumb if I don't:)

It was bitter sweet leaving work yesterday knowing that once again I will be without a job. The business is picking up only slightly but the techs are doing a much better job at selling their jobs than they were before. I enjoyed working with everyone and I will miss them.
The only real issue I have is that when they paid me for four days work it was not at my regular wage. Instead of making $12.50 an hour they paid me $10.oo. I don't know if they intended to do that or not. When I was originally called and asked to fill in, I was told that they would pay me cash but the amount was never discussed, so I just assumed it was at the same wage I was making before they laid me off. I would also assume that if my regular wage was an issue that they would have told me what they could pay me. So... I did place a call and spoke to the office manager and she will ask them. Somehow though I feel like a heathen for even asking.

Ok everyone, I have more reading to do so I will catch up with all of you later....
Don't forget about the Regalo Boutique contest. I am too lazy to post a link to it so just scroll down a few posts and you should find it with no problems....

You may not like my taste in music....

but you don't have to. I did want to inform you that I have added a play list to my blog and I do realize that some of you out there may not want to listen so of course you can always turn it off. I just want you all to know that it was there....

I am not lazy....just super busy:)

It's been awhile but I have had things to do...

I did work the one day at my previous job and it was somehow different. I mean the people were the same and the job was the same but I felt weird. Like I truly didn't belong. The techs were funny as usual and the majority of them hated that fact that I would not be permanent but I was told how valuable I am and that they are working hard to bring me back. But with all that said, I thought to myself..."Do I really want to come back?" I am however filling in again while two of the office staff go to St. Louis for a Customer Service Seminar. I have worked Friday and will be working Monday-Wednesday of next week.

The kids have already been on Spring Break and we were still able to take them to Busch Gardens on the Friday before they went back to school. We didn't spend quite as much as we would normally but the kids didn't complain. It was good that we had season passes and we spent very little on snacks and ate our main meal outside the park.

I just finished my second term of school on Tuesday and I am pretty sure that I made the President's List again. I am noticing that each term is getting a little more involved. I had English Composition and Marketing which both had term papers that were a big part of the grade and it was very intense and involving but I did receive 100's on them. I need to be able to manage my time better so I do not have to burn the midnight oil so often. My next classes, College Algebra and Software Applications will start on Wednesday, April 16th. So I am trying to take advantage of the week off.

I have come up with an idea for a contest involving Regalo Boutique and you fellow bloggers. I don't want to give too much of it away but I promise if you check back before the weekend is over the post will be up and running.

Also if there is anyone that would like to ask me question just for the heck of it or to get to know me a little better... please ask away.

Going back to work... one day only

My friend and ex co-worker called me today. Her niece passed away earlier this week(cause is unknown at this time) and she wanted to know if I could fill in for tomorrow. Of course I said yes and I will do it but I really am hesitant. I feel weird about it. No, I am not upset about them laying me off. It's just feels awkward. I can't really put it into words. I have a feeling that they may want to utilize me for fill ins. I don't want to have to do that.

Anyway... it will be nice to see everyone again.

New Year.... New Me

I have been taking it easy being home for the last two weeks. I have gotten some things done around the house. Had dinner all ready to go once the man of the house came home. I have spent countless daytime hours with school and of course playing my Sims game:)

Financially we are a little strapped and I have been trying to think of ways to bring in a little extra income. I have decided to redo the Regalo Boutique site. I have time now so... I think that will be a priority and I have thought about seriously looking for work to do from home. Legit work though not scams. I hate scams. So if any of you have ideas, please shoot them my way. Oh... and pledge to post at least once a day. Scouts Honor:)

Can you spell RECESSION??!!

I have known for quite some time that my family could possibly be affected by what many "officials" dare not to speak of.... I am talking about recession here... As of March 11, 2008 I am no longer employed.

I got the news two minutes before my work day was through... I know he had a very difficult decision to make and I know he did not want to do this but when the company wasn't bringing in nearly enough money, I knew it was just a matter of time. What sucks is that I had absolutely no time to search for anything else... not that there is anything out there to begin with. I was the one to comfort my boss because of how chocked up he was and because he is a man with a huge heart it hurt me to see him so upset. I have been with this company for almost four years and I have thought of each and everyone of my co workers as family.. yes we would sometimes get on each others nerves and yes we have had our moments but so do we with our own families. What I did not know until I went in to the office the next day to collect my things and to help the office manager out with a few details was that my boss was cutting into his own paycheck for several weeks trying to keep me on. Who does that? He does.

So.. I am taking it easy and trying to devote more of my time to keeping the house clean (whew) and my school work. I will be getting a severance package that will last a few weeks and then If I haven't found anything, I will be filing for unemployment. I have some leads in the works so we shall see..

At least I will have some time to post more:)
